At the beginning of the story Mantharaka wanted to cut down a tree but he cant. For example, Mantharaka wanting to cut the tree. Another example he wanting to take the tree. A third example,is that Mantharaka met a spirit in the tree and Mantharaka told him the spirit that he wanted to cut down the tree. For that reason Mantharaka wanted to cut down a tree but he cant.

At the end of the story Mantharaka wished for something that end up killing him. For example people beat him with sticks. Author example is that people who beat him is from his town that he lived at. A third example is that he die when they finish beat him with sticks. For that reason he wised for something that end up killing him.
